Exclusive Interview with Barong Family Signed Producer GHOSTER

Barong Family signed producer GHOSTER makes his mark yet again with a uplifting and high-energy new single “Belong” featuring powerful vocals from NANAMI. “Belong” serves as a monumental single included in the label’s 200th release which features a 7-Track EP ‘BF200.’

After an epic year for GHOSTER which includes his collaboration with RayRay on “Nana Street,” hard-hitting four-track EP ‘GHOSTOWN,’ and throwing it down at live shows across China, this producer is clearly making his own waves in the music industry.

‘Belong’ kicks-off with a steady piano instrumental intertwined with soothing vocals from NANAMI. Leading directly into an intensified build up fueled with alarming and rattling synths, this Russian electronic artist is about to go off with this one. Dropping a trap-infused melody consisting of wonky-basslines and high-pitched chimes, GHOSTER has just released another festival-ready single to end off the summer on the brightest note.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Tell us about the first track that put you on the map in the electronic scene and the journey since. How did you get started?

My first track was “Put it Down.” I worked on this track for a few months before I sent it to labels. It is a classic vibe in my opinion. To be honest no label initially gave feedback. I was waiting 1 or 2 months and still nothing. Then, one label was interested to release it. I was ready to sign the contract and then I got a message from Barong Family. They liked my track and wanted to release it. I was very excited! This was definitely my first big step in the electronic scene. My first track, first release, and on one of the most creative labels I know. Big moves for sure!

Tell us about your latest project ‘Belong’

“Belong” featuring NANAMI. We made a great track. We started working on this track last year when we meet in Bangkok. There were many changes to be done before producing a sound and various elements that fit perfectly for both of us. This track was included in the 200th release album for Barong Family. I am very proud and happy about the outcome of this track.

Tell us something we wouldn’t normally find out about you?

In 2012 I was nominated for the World Champion of Performing Arts in dance.

What single night out has been most memorable for you as a DJ and producer?

As a DJ, the most memorable night was last month in China. I had a show in Wuhan. Great city, crazy night, and amazing people. IM HUN club is definitely a cool place. As a producer, I cannot talk about one night, but one week. Last year, I was in Bangkok during the Barong Family camp. It was a week filled with many talented people working together and of course partying together. I will never forget those moments.

Give us the name of one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you listen to it?

It has to be Michael Jackson – Thriller

Dream collaboration and why?

This is a very difficult question for me. There are too many talented artists I would love to collaborate with, but if I had to choose one it would be DIE ANTWOORD.

If you could play any festival, which would it be?

BurningMan or Tomorrowland for sure!

How do you get a track started? tell us about your production process

Every time it is different and evolving. It totally depends on the mood and vibe I am trying to go for or feeling at that moment. But usually, I start from the drop and incorporate drum elements and bass lines which is the main part, and then work on crafting the melody. Add effects and go from there!

Latest project? What are you currently working on?

For now, I am working on a few collaborations and my own tracks at the same time. You can listen to something cool and fresh soon!

The relationship between a dj and the audience is crucial, and yet is seems to be a fragile one – how do you see the balance between giving the crowd what they want and treating them to something new?

You are right 100%. I started DJing a long time ago. I started in Russia, where DJs can play a few hours non-stop. In some clubs, you can play 4 or 5 hours non stop, and I was a DJ who worked like this. The crowd in Russia is very fragile. If they do not like ur music, be ready, because somebody can throw a glass at your head. You have to learn to feel the crowd, and DJs from Russia undeniably can feel it haha. So, I have this experience, and it helps me to read the crowd and what they want.
