Exclusive Interview with Sacramento Bass artist – Daunter & new music

Exclusive Interview with Sacramento Bass artist Daunter & new music

Sacramento Bass artist Daunter releases his second track of the year with Beast Trap Records ‘Falling’.

This record is a blend of melodic and heavy bass with influences from trap. This release follows his single ‘Agony’ which is also signed with Beast Trap  Records.

‘Falling’ is Daunter exploring his sound and embracing the heavier side of Bass music. A powerful vocal and synth draws the attention of the listener into a world of Melodic and Heavy Bass genres. Falling is an example of Daunter bringing different styles of music into one track that keeps the listener wanting more.

Daunter believed in this track and wanted to take it to the next level by embracing his passion and interest in Bass music. “Falling is one of my favorite tracks I’ve produced in the last year and I am truly thankful Beast Trap wanted to sign it; and also grateful for my mentors Felmax and Omas for they really have pushed me to become a better artist and really believe in my project“.

Thoughts on the track: “I am THRILLED to have this song released and really embark on the journey of Bass music. The heavier side of the track is absolutely my favorite, but I also wanted to show to myself that I can do this! I am genuinely happy how the final result turned out and I can’t wait for everyone to listen to it.”

1. Tell us about the first track that put you on the map in the electronic scene and the journey since. How did you get started?

“Strobe by Deadmau5 is the track that really got me into the electronic scene. I remember walking home as a kid hearing this track and it made me feel all kinds of emotions. The full version is absolutely one of a kind and it is a true pioneer of a track. It’s a timeless track that I could listen to forever. I’m actually listening to it as we speak haha!”

2. Tell us about your latest project ‘Falling’

My latest track titled ‘Falling’ is one of my favorite tracks I’ve produced. I wrote this during my travels last year. However, I ended up losing the original idea due to my laptop crashing. So I had to restart it from scratch. Definitely sucked; but it also helped with the writing process of starting over and fresh with a new idea of taking the bass route with it.

3. Tell us something we wouldn’t normally find out about you?

I was part of Greek Life during my time in college; and it is the same Fraternity as Jauz and Slander (different chapters of course).

4. What single night out has been most memorable for you as a dj and producer?

I would have to say when everything reopened and Ghastly came to Sacramento for a show, I actually got to meet him and tell my story of how his music really put me on the path of producing music. Hearing his reaction and taking the time out of his night to talk to me really made me happy. He also was at the same after party I went to. He is definitely a one of a kind dude and had a blast kicking it with him.

5. Give us the name of one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you listen to it?

Gravebloom by MUST DIE! This track is massive and I always blast Gravebloom in my car! Must Die is without a doubt one of the best producers in the scene and is always setting the bar every time he puts out music. He’s also a big inspiration to me.

6. Dream collaboration and why?

I would love to collaborate with Sullivan King because he blends metal and EDM that is truly one of a kind.  Whenever I think of metal and EDM, I instantly think of Sullivan King haha. A person can dream! One day, I would love to make a collaboration happen with him!

7. If you could play any festival, which would it be?

This is difficult, because I really like Escape and EDC Las Vegas lol. If I had to really choose, it would have to be EDC Las Vegas. I haven’t been since 2018, and would be great to return to EDC Las Vegas as an artist that is playing. I would absolutely love to play at the Circuit Grounds stage, because it is where I discovered that I really wanted to pursue music as a passion. Essentially it would be a full circle moment for me to play at Circuit Grounds, plus it’s also a great stage to introduce people to EDC for their first time!

8. How do you get a track started? tell us about your production process

I actually start with the atmosphere, I feel this is an important part of the producing process. Adding atmosphere to your music can really tell the story behind your track really well. Then I will start finding ad libs of a vocal and go from there. After that, I start with the bass lines and how I would want to tell the story. More recently, I’ve been writing a drop a day for the last two months to really improve on my drops to make the process faster. I feel drops take the longest for me because I’ll second guess myself and have to re-center myself “Stop changing stuff! It sounds good!”.

9. Upcoming projects? What are you currently working on?

I actually have another track coming out really soon with Beast Trap! I have a lot of music I’m sitting on and will be sending out more of my catalogue at the end of the year.  I have a strong feeling some of my unreleased may find a home that accepts Heavy Bass.  I also have a collaboration with a good friend of mine who goes by Glazzglow! He is definitely someone to watch out for in the coming months! He is one hell of a producer!

10. The relationship between a dj and the audience is crucial, and yet is seems to be a fragile one – how do you see the balance between giving the crowd what they want and treating them to something new?

Really really good question! The DJ controls the entire mood of the room and how to keep the audience constantly interested is no easy task. I’ve definitely had mess ups in my DJing journey so far lol; but it’s a learning experience. One of the best feelings in the world to me is seeing people react to my tracks and they feel some type of release.

Truly, a good feeling to me is knowing that all the time I spent on my tracks and seeing their reactions when I play live is something I hold close to my heart.  Usually my sets have my own music and edits, but I also love playing out my friends tracks and tracks that are not well known. I also like playing tracks that is different and unique. I absolutely love playing Poni’s remix of Deadcrow’s track ‘Fallout’. It’s instantly a hit, and has four on the four, trap, and mid tempo all in one.  10-15% of my sets are tracks that people have heard many times.
