Released on Box of Cats, “Still Rockin’” sees Wisconsin DJ and producer Blaze Orange deliver a playful, percussion-driven house track packed with bounce, personality, and dancefloor energy. Built around rolling percussion, bouncy grooves, and playful vocal chops, the track has the kind of character that makes it difficult to stand still.

Blaze Orange is the latest project from Milwaukee-born DJ and producer Mike Zaborowski, who has spent more than a decade developing his place within an ever-changing electronic music scene. His journey began at a young age with the saxophone before a growing passion for mixtapes, DJing, and music production eventually led him deeper into electronic music.

Over the years, Zaborowski has also helped build a community around his music through a collective of like-minded DJs and the curation of live events. That focus on community remains central to Blaze Orange, with his productions designed to connect with listeners whether they’re experienced in an intimate club or on a festival stage.

After years of experimentation and refining his sound, the Blaze Orange persona emerged in late 2021. The project reflects Zaborowski’s willingness to move between genres while adding his own character to everything he produces. The result is music that aims to feel fresh without losing the relatable, communal spirit at the heart of dance music.

That approach is particularly clear on “Still Rockin’.” One of the track’s standout features is an unexpected call-and-response between the vocal phrases. A male voice delivers the “Still rockin’” line before a female voice answers with “What’s up?”, creating a natural opportunity for crowd participation. What began as an unplanned element has become one of the track’s most memorable hooks.

It’s easy to imagine the exchange becoming a live moment of its own: the guys responding with “STILL ROCKIN’” while the ladies answer “What’s up!” The simplicity is part of its appeal, giving the track an interactive quality that can turn a DJ set into something much more communal.

The vocal production goes even further. Blaze Orange brought together around five or six vocal samples from different sources, carefully combining them so they feel as though they belong to the same sonic world. Rather than simply placing samples over a beat, he used them to build a story and give the track its own distinct personality.

Behind the release is also a story of persistence. “Still Rockin’” represents the culmination of nearly two years spent sending music to Box of Cats and Nine Lives Club, receiving feedback, returning to the studio, and continuing to refine the work. That consistency helped Blaze Orange build a relationship with the label and the artists around it, making this release an important milestone in his progression.

The Box of Cats team summed up the record’s character neatly, describing Blaze Orange as Wisconsin’s answer to the idea that America’s Dairyland has more to offer than cheese, while highlighting the track’s “rolling percussion, bouncy grooves and playful vocal chops.”

Following live performances and releases throughout 2024, Blaze Orange continues to establish himself within the modern dance music landscape. “Still Rockin’” is a strong example of what makes the project stand out: inventive sampling, a strong sense of groove, and music designed with the crowd firmly in mind.
