Exclusive Interview with DJ & Producer duo Level Up! & K-Kyoto

International DJ & Producer duo Level Up! & K-Kyoto are back with their brand new single “Don’t Worry”, due to be released on BLINDsided Records on Friday 12th of March. “Don’t Worry” is a energetic and yet emotional track written during the U.K.’s First national Lockdown.

The tracks catchy chorus “Don’t worry about a thing” was inspired by the lonely times we have all been feeling during the coronavirus pandemic. the lyrics were written and inspired by the current state of the worlds mental health which we have experienced first hand, we wanted share this experience with the world and to say we are all in this together and we are all going to get through these dark times, you are not alone.

The track’s official music video features a group of young teens dancing and enjoying themselves in an arcade a simple and yet powerful illustration of happier times we all once knew. bringing to light the symbolic nature of how in dark times we always manage to get through things together.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

1. Tell us about the first track that put you on the map in the electronic scene and the journey since. How did you get started?

It all started back in 2019 when we became friends, we both had a passion for music, after a few months of being friends we got in the studio together and started writing our first single, The first track we released was called “Feeling Lovely” we wrote this song at the end of 2019 and released it in may 2020, the track had major support across the UK and since then we have gone onto host our own radio show on Gorgeous FM, we have wrote multiple singles which involve highly rated singers and a few major labels, we have some exciting collaborations coming this year so stay tuned!

2. Tell us about your latest project?

At the moment we have got multiple projects going on across different genres in all aspects of music, but we’d say the favourite project were working on at the moment is a bass house track were working on for Dr Fresch’s Label “House Call Records”.

3. Tell us something we wouldn’t normally find out about you?

So K-Kyoto has been on Britain’s got talent, and also has a huge obsession with Pokémon. Level Up! on the other hand used to take dance lessons when he was younger, and also has dyspraxia.

4. What single night out has been most memorable for you as a dj and producer?

Back at the beginning of 2020 we headlined the WE LOVE BEATS festival in amstetten (Austria) this was our first headline set overseas, the hospitality was exceptional and we had a crazy time there!, being from the UK we commonly drink vodka and coke, but in Austria nobody knew what this was and it took forever for us to order drinks by the time we left the towns locals were calling a vodka and coke “The Level Up! & K-Kyoto” which was really funny!

5. Give us the name of one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you listen to it?

For us it would be Skrillex – Summit, the track features Ellie Goulding the overall feel of the track is emotional but motivational, and the production quality is incredible! were sure you’ve all already heard it but if you haven’t check it out!

6. Dream collaboration and why?

For us it would be skrillex, the production skills and the creativity and knowledge he has is admirable, he manages to find emotion within melodies and sounds that nobody could ever think of, plus his drum mixing and vocal production is the best we’ve heard, check out “would you ever”, the vocal cuts are insane.

7. If you could play any festival, which would it be?

Tomorrowland or Ultra all day, some of the biggest DJ sets to date have been played at these places, and we would love to be a part of that one day.

8. How do you get a track started? tell us about your production process

This can happen in anyway, we take inspiration from anything and everything, we are both multi genred producers, and were always listening for new sounds and rhythms that could be used in our productions, we both listen to pretty much every genre of music between us, and we also look at different musical cultures so when it comes to laying things down in the studio we always have fresh and exciting ideas.

9. The relationship between a dj and the audience is crucial, and yet is seems to be a fragile one – how do you see the balance between giving the crowd what they want and treating them to something new?

We create our own mashups, remixes, and original work, our sets are also multi genre incorporating multiple styles with things contently changing, we’ve found this great with pleasing the commercial audience and also keeping things heavier and bassier for the more underground scene, keeping things mixed up and unpredictable at all times. this is why we feel people connect with our DJ sets, and there’s really something there for everybody.
