Louveteau Drops Eclectic 6-Track EP ‘House Sitting’ Out Now on All Music Streaming Platforms
Louveteau is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer who’s spent the past eight years experimenting across a wide range of genres from hip-hop to classical. This diverse experience comes across in his newest release, House Sitting, and is ultimately what makes it more than just another collection of four-on-the-floor beats.
Most notable from the EP are its chord progressions and harmonies. What it lacks in novelty of sound-palette it makes up for with contemplative yet groovy moods. It helps fill up some of the giant and often-empty space, especially in dance music, between overtly dark and totally euphoric. It might be the perfect soundtrack for some of your in-between evenings this summer.
The first song and lead single from the bunch is obviously the catchiest. It features poppy yet chill vocals from Jasmine Kelly. The lyrics are dreamy and mysterious.
The next five tracks are each a subtly different take on the same drum beat. Some hold fiery drops (most notably the final section of Brand New Socks) and others contain minutes of hypnotic repetition (see the last two minutes of Submarine for this) but each track creates its own world. Any song on the EP could be a standalone single but they do hold together as a project.
1. Tell us about the first track that put you on the map in the electronic scene and the journey since. How did you get started?
The first song I put out was ‘On My Way’ a few years ago. That release came from a push to get better at finishing music. I actually got myself an AirBnb out of town for a few days and told my roommate I’d give him $200 if I didn’t finish three songs. Since then I’ve been really focused on getting better at producing and mixing, and six months ago I quit my job to focus on completing songs again. So I was able to finish House Sitting by combining both of those things which are difficult but important.
2. Tell us about your latest project ‘House Sitting’

While working on my production skills I’ve obviously accrued a huge amount of ideas, loops, or even almost-complete songs. Most are trash but some are pretty good. I completed and released House Sitting out of a sense of obligation to those good ideas. It’s always a good feeling to finish something that’s been weighing on you, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get that satisfaction fully. I still have another 100+ songs I want to finish.
3. Tell us something we wouldn’t normally find out about you?
I’ve played classical piano since I was 5 and also write music for the piano. I lived in San Diego for eight years where I played an open mic as a singer-songwriter on guitar. So all pretty different from the house music that I’ve been focused on more recently.
4. What single night out has been most memorable for you as a dj and producer?
Probably seeing Bonobo at the Mirage in Brooklyn. I had been to EDM shows before but Bonobo’s music is more personal for me, and something really clicked seeing it in that setting. I think that’s a big part of the reason I’ve been able to stay so focused on electronic music for the past year.

Adrianne Lenker; she’s the best modern song-writer/artist I can think of.

8. How do you get a track started? tell us about your production process
My best tracks start with sound design. Whenever I’m trying to create a cool synth sound from scratch I inevitably lose focus and get side-tracked with a melody or chord progression that resonates with that sound. It’s a really fun interplay between creating two different things that fuel each other.
9. Upcoming projects? What are you currently working on?
I have another two-song release coming out in August. It’s unapologetically beachy and summery so I want to get it out while it still makes sense.
10. The relationship between a dj and the audience is crucial, and yet is seems to be a fragile one – how do you see the balance between giving the crowd what they want and treating them to something new?
The first thing I prioritize is playing stuff that I’m excited about, new or old. I think it’s impossible to read minds or please everyone, and if you try to you’ll please no one. But I do temper the “play whatever I want” attitude by making sure I’m playing things that are at the right energy level for the time and setting.
